Balcony and Pot Collection

Four packs of bulbs, chosen because these are the ones I plant in containers myself: Crocus Snowstorm, Muscari Mount Hood, Narcissus Minnow Tops and Anemone Blanda Mix. All four stay compact and do well in the small amount of soil a pot holds, so they suit a balcony, a doorstep or a planter by the front steps. You supply the pot and the soil, and the bulbs arrive as four sealed packs ready to go in. Planted in October, they give you colour from late winter into April.
Hardneck Garlic Trio

Three packs of seed garlic, three different hardneck varieties, nine seed bulbs in total. I grouped the hardnecks because they are the ones that handle a real Canadian winter, and they give you the curly scapes to cut for the pan in June. Plant them in October and lift full heads in July. The flavour is a long way from supermarket garlic.
First Colour of Spring Collection

These are the ones that open while February is still doing its worst, and they carry the garden until the tulips get going. Plant them in October somewhere you walk past every day, and the grey end of winter gets a lot easier to sit through.

Five packs of bulbs that the squirrels usually walk right past: Narcissus Tete a Tete, Narcissus Jetfire, Allium Purple Sensation, Muscari Night Eyes and Leucojum Aestivum. Squirrels treat freshly planted tulips like a buffet, so I put together the ones they tend to leave alone, for anyone who has dug a hole in October and found it empty in November. Planted in October, the first of them are up in late winter and the alliums finish the run as spring goes on.

Four packs of bulbs and one 500 g bag of Gaia Green All Purpose, put together for layered planting in a pot you already own. The pot and the soil are not part of the kit. Tulip Negrita goes in the deepest layer, Narcissus Tete a Tete sits in the middle, and Crocus Mixed Colours and Muscari White Magic go near the top, so one container keeps flowering from February through to May instead of giving you two good weeks and then going quiet. The two alliums carry round purple and white heads on tall stems, and the Eremurus, sold in many places as foxtail lily, sends up its spires after them, so the show keeps moving from late spring into early summer. These want room around them, along a fence or at the back of a bed, and they are the ones the neighbours end up asking about.

Every week, someone walks into the store with a photo of their yard and a question. That is my favourite part of this work. After more than twenty five wet winters on this coast, I have made most of the mistakes a gardener can make, and I remember what fixed them.
Every bulb on this page is one I have planted myself, and I ordered them in small lots on purpose. When the boxes arrive in September, I go through the packs with my own hands. A soft or undersized bulb does not get sold.
Right plant, right place, and a firm bulb to start with. That is most of the battle.

We order more than we sell, so a shortfall should be rare. If the grower shorts us on a variety you reserved, we contact you with a choice: a similar variety of the same value, or a full refund for that item within 10 business days. Always your call.
Yes. Cancel any time before your order ships, or before you pick it up, and we refund your card in full, no questions asked. Email contact@dhgardencentre.com with your order number and we will answer within 24 hours.
The shipment lands at the store the week of September 16. Pickup and shipping both start the week of September 20. Shipped orders take 2 to 7 business days depending on your region, and most big cities see theirs in 2 to 5.
October and November are prime bulb planting on the coast, and October is garlic month almost everywhere in Canada. Bulbs want cool soil, not warm soil, so a late September arrival puts them in your hands at the right moment. In the colder provinces, plant soon after your order arrives.
One flat $13 rate per order, anywhere in Canada, and no other fees. You see the rate before you pay. Delivery takes 2 to 7 business days depending on how easy your region is to reach, and shipped orders need to total $35 or more. Bulbs are heavy for their size, which is why they ship at a flat rate while our fertilizer ships free. The rate stays $13 no matter how many packs you add. If anything arrives damaged, we replace it or refund it, and you do not have to ship it back. Pickup in Kitsilano is always free, with no minimum.
The same bulbs we plant ourselves. Tulips are top size, 12 cm and up, and every variety on this page lists its bulb count and size. When the shipment arrives, we go through the packs by hand before a single order goes out.
